Common Questions
Questions Are Always Welcome
Beginning a coaching engagement often brings excitement, curiosity, and occasionally a bit of uncertainty. That's completely natural.
The questions below address many of the topics clients ask before and during their coaching experience. If your question isn't included here, I encourage you to ask. Open communication is one of the foundations of a successful coaching partnership.
What if I'm not sure what I want to focus on?
You do not need to arrive with a fully developed plan.
Many clients begin coaching with a general sense that something is ready to change, even if they cannot yet articulate exactly what that change looks like.
One of the purposes of coaching is to create greater clarity. Together, we'll explore your current circumstances, identify what matters most, and establish meaningful direction as your coaching journey unfolds.
How should I prepare for each session?
There is no "perfect" way to prepare.
Some clients choose to journal beforehand, while others simply take a few quiet moments to reflect before joining the conversation.
The most valuable preparation is simply arriving with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to engage honestly with whatever feels most important that day.
What if I become emotional during a session?
Coaching often invites people to explore experiences, values, and aspirations that carry significant meaning.
It is not uncommon for emotions to arise during that process.
Emotion is welcomed without judgment and treated as a natural part of meaningful reflection and growth. There is no expectation that you present yourself in any particular way during our conversations.
Will you tell me what to do?
Coaching is not advice-giving. While I may offer observations, frameworks, resources, or perspectives when appropriate, my primary role is to ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and help you discover the answers that align with your own values and goals.
My objective is not to create dependence, but to strengthen your confidence in your own judgment and decision-making.
Is everything we discuss confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is one of the cornerstones of this practice.
Information shared during coaching sessions is treated as confidential except where disclosure is required by law or otherwise described in the Coaching Agreement.
Creating an environment where you feel comfortable speaking openly is essential to our work together.
Can coaching and therapy happen at the same time?
Absolutely. Many clients work with both a therapist and a coach. These professions serve different—but often complementary—purposes.
Therapy frequently focuses on healing, processing, and treating mental health concerns.
Coaching focuses on future-oriented growth, intentional change, leadership, and personal development.
When appropriate, the two can work together exceptionally well.
How will I know whether coaching is working?
Growth is not always dramatic. More often, meaningful change appears gradually.
You may begin making decisions with greater confidence. Communicating more clearly. Setting healthier boundaries. Responding rather than reacting. Feeling more aligned with your values.
Over time, these seemingly small shifts often become profound transformations.
What if I need to reschedule a session?
Life occasionally requires flexibility. If you need to reschedule, I ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice whenever possible.
Additional information regarding cancellations, missed appointments, and package policies can be found in the Refund & Cancellation Policy.
What if coaching is no longer the right fit?
Coaching is most effective when there is mutual trust, openness, and alignment. If at any point it becomes clear that another form of support would better serve your needs, we will discuss that together with honesty and respect.
My priority is always helping you receive the support that is most appropriate for your circumstances.
One Final Thought
The quality of our coaching conversations will never depend on having the perfect answers.
They begin with thoughtful questions.
If something is on your mind—whether before a session, during our work together, or somewhere along the way—I encourage you to bring it forward.
Questions are not interruptions to the coaching process. They are often where meaningful transformation begins.
